Founded in November 2000, Cordant is developing enterprise Instant Messaging technologies. The Cordant Enterprise Server will serve as the core technology for a number of future products that Cordant is designing to help enterprises utilize Instant Messaging, particularly in regards to customer communications. The company is currently self-funded, with backing coming from its founders; however, Cordant has just started pursuing a Series A VC round. The company currently has 19 employees, 7 in the U.S. and 12 in an office in India.

The first product to be unveiled as part of the platform, IMScribe®*, was released in November 2001. Targeted specifically at Microsoft Exchange users, Cordant says that IMScribe® moves IM from the consumer to business realm. According to Cordant, logging IM content has emerged as a business need and also as a regulatory requirement across several industries. IMScribe® is designed to meet business and regulatory needs of large enterprises, particularly in financial services, where the SEC requires brokerage firms to retain customer communications for six years. IMScribe® enables enterprises meet these requirements by enabling the archiving, retrieving, and monitoring of all IM.

*IMScribe®:
Enterprise Class Compliance and Administration for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Instant Messaging:

For enterprises looking to deploy Exchange 2000 Instant Messaging, a comprehensive archiving solution is an essential prerequisite, but Exchange 2000 IM lacks content logging functionality "out-of-the-box". Accordingly, Cordant has first productized its Archiving component, IMScribe®. IMScribe® not only meets for Exchange 2000 IM compliance requirements but also is encompassing logging, archiving, reviewing, reporting, etc. and is highly scalable and suitable for the demanding 24X7 environments typical of large enterprises. It was released only after incorporating feedback from extensive Beta testing at over ten Fortune 500 enterprises.
